Welcome back to “Xur’s Wares.” In this weekly series I take a look at what he’s selling and give you my opinion about it.
This week you can find Xur in the Tower, downstairs in the “Disco Room”. This one is a little tricky to get to, so here’s the route. Once you spawn in, head to your right into the Hanger. Once you make it past the ships, keep going straight and run down the stairs. Continue past the Emote kiosk all the way to the back and you’ll find Xur by a jukebox and some couches.
These Gauntlets are a great choice for Titans running the Sunbreaker Class. Their Exotic perk grants Explosive Pyre, and this node makes it so that enemies killed by your hammer explode and chain Solar damage to other enemies. Letting the gloves handle this frees you up to also use the Flameseeker node which adds tracking to hammers.
This is a very useful perk in PVE, as I’ve found this Super is best used for add control. You can use on a boss, but it’s better for clearing out waves of bad guys when you’re getting overrun. Being able to chain damage only works when the enemies die, so the perk is not as effective against bigger targets. Also, you don’t really need tracking for a boss, because they are pretty easy to hit. They are also a great choice for this week’s Iron Banner which is Mayhem Clash.
Are you a Hunter that likes invisibility, but doesn't want to play as a Bladedancer? Well then, these might be the Gauntlets you’re looking for. Their exotic perk reads as the following: "Gain invisibility after crouching in place for a short time. Melee attacking an enemy from behind while invisible delivers 4x damage. Melee attacks apply a lingering damage effect.”
Pair these with Arc Burn and Brawler modifiers for some serious PVE damage. Of course, they will also work great in PVP if you like sneaking around. Not only that, but you’ve got a sweet looking beetle on your arm, which is a very cool design.
These Warlock Gauntlets offer better Energy Drain, quicker Melees. plus faster reload and equips. While the Energy Drain is specific to a Voidwalker build, Warlocks of all varieties can take advantage of the other two. The faster reloads and equips are especially useful for players that like to switch between say, a Shotgun and an Auto Rifle in PVP. This can give you the edge in an encounter where you’ve run out of ammo in one of your guns.
I could also see this perk coming in handy for the DPS phase of boss battles in PVE. I know I’m often firing all rounds from my heavy, then secondary, then primary, so getting a reduction time between reloading each means more damage. Here’s a great little video that chats more about the perks of these Gauntlets.
Zhalo Supercell & Not A Toy
As I’ve mentioned before, in my opinion this is one of the best guns in the game. This Auto Rifle is a must for Arc Burn Nightfalls and Heroic Strikes. it’s not the best for bosses, but for adds it is tops. It has the ability to chain Arc Damage and kills automatically return some ammo to the magazine.
This means you can take out entire waves of Thralls or Dregs without having to stop to reload. It also has Persistence, which means the gun gets more accurate the longer it’s fired, which is very useful. See what the Not A Toy Ornament looks like here.
Hawkmoon & Carrion
This Hand Cannon has been the boon and bane of many a Guardian in the Crucible. With a large magazine, high impact, and two hand Exotic perks it can dispatch enemies in seconds. The perks are stackable, meaning there’s a chance you’ll get the damage boost on the same shot. First up: Holding Aces which is "Two more random bullets in your magazine deal considerable bonus damage.”
Next is Luck in the Chamber which causes "One random bullet in the magazine [to do] considerable bonus damage.” This means you can Two-shot kill an enemy Guardian, which is pretty insane. This is a must if you love Hand Cannons, and a great one to start with if you haven’t played with this primary type before. See what it looks like with the Carrion Ornament on Destiny’s Instagram here.
That’s it for this week! Per normal, these pieces of armor can be had for 13 strange coins while the gun will set you back 23 coins. The Weapons Bundles each cost 30 Strange Coins and 25 Silver Dust. Happy shooting, Guardians!
