Xur’s Wares: March 31, 2017

A look at what the Agent of the Nine is selling this week.

It's the weekend, Guardians!

Welcome back to “Xur’s Wares.” In this weekly series I take a look at what that ol’ Agent of the Nine is selling and give you my opinion on what he’s got.

This week you can find Xur in the Tower, downstairs across from Lord Shaxx. He’s selling: Ruin Wings, Fr0st-EE5, Astrocyte Verse, and No Land Beyond. As usual, he’s got the usual non-rotating stock of curios, Heavy Ammo, Exotic Shards, Glass Needles and the like. Find out more about them here.

But wait there’s more! Now with the Age of Triumph, Xur has a couple of new options! He is also selling “Weapon Bundles.” These include an Exotic Weapon and an Ornament. This week he has Monte Carlo & Royal Flush, and Zhalo Supercell & Shock Hazard. Okay, let’s get started, shall we?

Ruin Wings

Do you like Heavy Ammo? Yes? Good, because if you didn’t I’d start to wonder. Anyhoo, the Exotic Perk on these Titan Gauntlets is “Heavy Ammo drops more often and contains more ammo in each drop.” If you’re tired of running out of ammo for your G-horn, you might want to equip these. They can be very useful at the start of a boss encounter: first equip the Ruin Wings, then kill the adds. This should drop a lot of Heavy. Pick up one brick, fill your reserve, then switch back to whatever Exotic you need. Assuming you don’t die, the Heavy Ammo will stay on the ground, and you can pick it up as needed later. I don’t see these gloves as being as useful in PVP as the “more ammo” does not work there.

I love, Love, LOVE these Hunter Boots for playing Rift. The perk, "Tighter turn radius while sprinting” will really help you as the Runner. They also have "Increased Grenade and Melee regeneration while sprinting” which is a nice little added bonus. Pair this with Blink, a weapon with increased Agility, and the Memory of Jolder artifact (which removes the sprint cooldown penalty) to head straight for the dunk zone.

Astrocyte Verse

Are you a Warlock that likes to Blink? If so, this may be the Exotic Helmet for you as its perk requires that to be activated. Their Exotic perk grants a "Temporary increase to Recovery on Blink.” Personally I’ve found Blink rather disorienting in PVE, but absolutely wonderful in PVP. In fact, I only use Blink in PVP when playing Rift. So like the Hunter Boots above, this is a Helmet I’d pull out when I was trying to slam some sparks.

No Land Beyond

A Primary Sniper for those who are 1337MLG pros. This is not the easiest gun to wield, but does serious damage in the right hands. If you’ve ever played Trials of Osiris, you’ve probably been killed by it. Even if this doesn’t sound like your jam, getting it counts towards the “Outlandish Arms” Milestone in the new Record Book. That’s the Exotic Weapon collection on page 10, so if you’ve got the coins it’s worth picking up for that alone.

Monte Carlo & Royal Flush

This Auto Rifle is a laser. I mean, figuratively, not literally. The only laser is the Sleeper Simulant, but I’m getting sidetracked. The Monte Carlo has almost no recoil which makes it a good choice for midrange PVP encounters. It also can be very effective in PVE. Its Exotic perk "Dealing damage with this weapon reduces your melee cooldown and grants a chance to fully charge your melee ability with each kill” makes it especially great use when the Brawler modifier is active. Consider pairing with a double Melee Exotic armor piece like The Insurmountable Skullfort or Sealed Ahamkara Grasps. And as an added bonus, here’s an image of what the Royal Flush Ornament looks like on the gun.

Zhalo Supercell & Shock Hazard

One of the best guns in the game, this Auto Rifle is a must for Arc Burn Nightfalls and Heroic Strikes. it’s not the best for bosses, but for adds, it is tops. It has the ability to chain Arc damage and kills automatically return some ammo to the magazine. This means you can take out entire waves of Thralls or Dregs without having to stop to reload. It also has Persistence, which means the gun gets more accurate the longer it’s fired. Very useful. See what it looks like with the Shock Hazard Ornament right here

That’s all for this week! Per normal, these pieces of Armor can be had for 13 Strange coins while the Astrocyte Verse will set you back 23 Coins. The Weapons Bundles each cost 30 Strange Coins and 25 Silver Dust. Happy shooting, Guardians!
