When Velocity 2X hit the PlayStation 4 and Vita last year, it immediately became a staple of the speedrunning community. Fans and reviewers praised the title for its combination of platforming and arcade-style shooting. It even won GameSpot’s Game of the Year award for the PlayStation Vita category. But Xbox One and PC gamers couldn’t partake in Velocity 2X’s excellence. They were left out in a cold, Velocity-less world. Luckily, the game’s developer, FuturLab, partnered with Sierra to bring Velocity 2X to the Xbox One, and PC. And, just to sweeten the deal, players will get both Sony DLC packs (16 added levels), and a brand new daily challenge feature.

But before we can celebrate Velocity 2X’s rebirth, the folks at FuturLab have released a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s creation. The video gives us a glimpse at V2X’s backstory, as told by the people responsible for crafting the game. Check it out:

Velocity 2X is not easily categorized. It’s part platformer, part top-down shooter—unified by similar mechanics across both modes of play. The result is an intuitive, but challenging experience where you’ll use an arsenal of weaponry and teleportation powers to cruise through the sci-fi universe, attempting to find the fastest possible route to the end of each map. As you progress, the difficulty increases, so be prepared to spend some time perfecting your technique.

Velocity 2X will hit Xbox One and PC next week, with news about a Linux and Mac OS version expected in the coming months. And don’t forget to follow Sierra on Facebook and Twitter to stay current on your Velocity 2X news.
