Get Up to Speed on Skylanders SuperChargers

Everything you need to know about the new vehicles, characters, racing, and more.

This Sunday, September 20, players will find themselves soaring through the sky, racing across vibrant terrain, and diving the depths of the Skylands when Skylanders SuperChargers makes its North American debut. Since announcing the next chapter in the Skylanders series back in June, we've given you a first-hand look at how developer Vicarious Visions is taking an exciting approach to bringing your favorite collectible toys to life in brand new ways. The introduction of powerful vehicles (a series first), new characters, online competitive racing—there's just a ton of features to get excited about in Skylanders SuperChargers. So, before you head out to the track, here's a rundown of what to expect at release.

Battle Kaos in an All-New Adventure

Building upon the events of last year's incredibly successful Skylanders: Trap Team, the world of Skylands is plunged into danger as the evil Kaos reveals his sky-eating Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction. But all is not lost just yet, as Master Eon has formed a new team of Skylanders, the SuperChargers, to rise up against Kaos across the air, sea, and sky. Led by the racing prowess of the flame spirit Spitfire, the SuperChargers will face a cast of villains in both platform-based combat and the thrill of competitive racing.

Take to the Land, Sea, and Sky in Vehicles

One of the best parts about playing any Skylanders title is the chance to not only collect fun toys, but to also watch as they come to life and spring into action after being placed on the Portal of Power. Skylanders SuperChargers' array of 20 land, sea, and air vehicles not only function as great toys with working wheels, but every single one features unique powers and abilities. Players can find in-game upgrades and modifications for vehicles, like a volcanic booster mod that chucks out lava rocks. And since any of the over 300 existing Skylanders figurines work with each vehicle, the combinations of characters and their rides are truly huge.

But if you're looking for the ultimate Skylanders SuperChargers experience, you'll want to match up those vehicles with their signature driver. The Dive Bomber, for example, is a Water Element-based submersible perfect for exploring the depths. But when matched with its intended Skylander--Dive-Clops--the combo becomes SuperCharged, unlocking a special ability.

Meet The SuperChargers

What's a new Skylanders game without a cast of legendary heroes to collect and play with in the Skylands? The creation of the SuperChargers means a line of collectible toys in the form of 20 brand new character figurines. You'll find some new takes on familiar faces, like Super Shot Stealth Elf with her Thorn Super Shot weapon. But SuperChargers launch day also introduces entirely new characters, including the flame spirit Spitfire and his signature vehicle Hot Streak, and the high-flying Stormblade with signature air vehicle, Sky Slicer.

For the first time ever, players can even place two iconic Nintendo characters, Donkey Kong and Bowser, on the Portal of Power. Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser are exclusive to Skylanders SuperChargers on the WiiU and Skylanders SuperChargers Racing on the Wii and Nintendo 3Ds family of systems. And with a simple twist of each toy's base, players can also use the characters in select Amiibo-compatible games.

Online Competitive Multiplayer and Racing

For the first time ever, a Skylanders game will feature online competitive multiplayer with the launch of Skylanders SuperChargers. While you'll still have the option of playing head-to-head with a friend in two-player local multiplayer, players can now face off in SuperChargers with four-player online racing. The brand new racing mode includes six tracks--two for each type of terrain--which are bundled in Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Packs. And the assortment of tactics, obstacles, and varied combinations of vehicles and characters means there's plenty of ways to tackle each race.

Each track will offer multiple paths, and selecting the right vehicle--and its available power-ups and special abilities--will give you an edge in the match. And while you're drifting through a land-based track, or soaring through the clouds in an air-vehicle race, players can grab various power-ups to boost speed or shield themselves from attack, for example. Winning races of course offers unique rewards, such as wishstones, gearbits, and other items to use in Skylanders SuperChargers.

But if you're more inclined to work toward a best-time on the track, Skylanders Superchargers will also post your times to online leaderboards, letting you compete against others for the ultimate top spot. Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS users can even grab a complementary racing combat game, Skylanders SuperChargers Racing, and take to the sky with Bowser and his signature vehicle, Clown Cruiser.

Speaking of racing, the three Skylanders SuperChargers Racing Starter Packs are a great way to expand your Skylanders collection and available racing levels. Each pack contains two tracks--specific to land, sea, or air--and an evil villain boss to tackle in the race. Beating a villain unlocks the character's unique signature vehicle, including special abilities. The Racing Starter Packs also include a SuperCharger toy, that character's signature vehicle, and villain trophy to unlock the tracks and new racing modes.

The Complete SuperChargers Experience on iOS Devices

The entire Skylanders SuperChargers game will be available October 25 on select iOS devices, including iPad and, for the first time ever, iPhone, iPod touch. It will also be available on Apple TV later this fall.  Even better, mobile users have true freedom in choosing the way they want to play SuperChargers on their device. While it's possible to play the game using the touch-screen controls on your iOS device, you can also use an embedded Bluetooth controller for a console-like experience.

The Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Pack for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple TV includes two character figurines, a vehicle, a Bluetooth portal, and a Bluetooth controller. After downloading the iOS version of Skylanders SuperChargers, players gain instant in-game access to Instant Spit Fire and his vehicle, Instant Hot Streak. Other Skylanders characters and vehicles are also available via in-app purchase.

Go Dark, Gain Access to Kaos

As we announced during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the Skylanders SuperChargers Dark Edition will offer unique toy variants and gameplay experiences, including Dark Spitfire and his vehicle, Dark Hot Streak. But the Dark Edition is also your chance to grab the Kaos Trophy, unlocking exclusive content like the ability to play as the evil villain Kaos and even race around in his signature vehicle.

The PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 versions of the Dark Edition also include Dark Super Shot Stealth Elf and the Dark Sea Shadow vehicle. Meanwhile, the Nintendo versions of the Skylanders SuperChargers Dark Edition will offer exclusive access to variants of the Bowser and Donkey Kong figurines. The Wii U version includes Dark Turbo Charge Donkey Long and his Dark Barrel Blaster vehicle, while the Wii starter pack includes Dark Hammer Slam Bowser and his Dark Clown Cruiser.
