Today’s edition of “Why Your Team is OP” previews three teams that may feel more pressure to make a statement during Launch Weekend than other squads. Here’s our breakdown of the Minnesota Rokkr, New York Subliners, and OpTic Gaming LA.

Why Minnesota is OP

The Minnesota Rokkr have a wealth of talent; any of their starting players could become a standout. Assault was the 2018 MVP in an epic finals event, and his first major LAN championship was at Call of Duty World Champs. While 2019 didn’t yield the same result, the same talent that made him an MVP should resurface this season. 

Aside from Assault, three of the other members of the starting five take strength in versatility. GodRx, SiLLY, and Alexx are all flex players that can function as AR or SMG support and slayers. In addition, SiLLY was also a part of that 2018 Championship squad and a huge reason for their success alongside Assault. Fans should expect GodRx and Alexx to be hungry for a championship and to be ready and willing to show off their talents come Launch Weekend.

Asim is fairly new to the pro scene, but he’s completely deserving of his spot on this squad. He came through the amateur scene during the Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4  season and established himself as a reliable SMG player. Asim will probably play a similar role on the Rokkr, and if he can bring the same or better skills than last year, the team will have a real shot. 

The reserves for the Rokkr, TTinyy and Exceed, qualify as young and hungry which should boost the overall mindset of the team and help position them for success. 

New York Subliners

Why New York is OP

The city that never sleeps has a team that shouldn’t be “slept on” in 2020. The Subliners reunite ZooMaa and Zer0 alongside two 2019 All-stars, then round out the squad with Accuracy, who’s been searching for redemption since coming in second at the 2018 championship. 

The two Zs (ZooMaa and Zer0) will benefit from their existing chemistry, and they complement each other well with their respective strengths in SMG and AR. Both players are seemingly entering their esports prime which will only bode well for the Subliners. 

Temp and Attach were absolute standouts in the CWL Pro League last season, earning all-star honors. Their elite caliber talent will probably see the two of them battling for team MVP. But they aren’t the only two that could earn that title. 

Accuracy has been on a mission since losing in a devastating upset at the CWL 2018 Champs. A World Championship has eluded him throughout this career, and he’ll do his best to make this year a winning season for the Subliners. 

Rounding out the reserves are Happy and Censor. Both have been in and out of the pro scene but have been vigilant—particularly Censor—about returning to Call of Duty® and making a name for themselves. They’ll keep their teammates on their toes, and if given the shot, these two could be deadly during the season.

Why OpTic Gaming is OP

OpTic Gaming. The name has been the at the center of the esports conversation since they established a dynasty years ago. Although the roster has undergone major changes, there is still more than enough talent for this team to claim another victory this season.

Dashy and TJHaLy return from last year’s OpTic squad with new additions that add even more talent to an already dynamic duo. Dashy’s unique versatility, deadly sniper shots in S&D, and stunning assault rifle play might only be matched by that of his longtime teammate. TJHaLy’s ability to create big moments just when the team needs them is a very valuable commodity. 

Then there are the new faces to OpTic, starting with an elite talent in Kenny. As soon as he emerged onto the Call of Duty scene, it was clear he would be an all-star. His inaugural season saw him lauded as the Rookie of the Year across all console esports—not an easy feat. He had a stellar season last year with 100 Thieves, and there’s no reason that won’t continue. 

SlasheR and JKap are veterans with histories of success. Both have been all-stars and CWL World Championship winners. Neither show any signs of slowing down with SlasheR placing 2^ndin last year’s CWL Champs, and JKap appearing in more Call of Duty Championship Grand Finals than any other pro player. 

With a completely stacked starting five, the OpTic subs also have worthy track records. Chino was an all-star in 2018 and Goonjar has played at six CWL Champs. Both will be able to contribute to the team if called upon. 

A team with loads of talent and promise that plays under the banner OpTic Gaming banner? Who wouldn’t consider them OP?
