Velocity 2X Hits Xbox One and PC Today

The first major details about KQ’s second chapter will be revealed during PAX

For Xbox One and PC speedrunners, today is practically a holiday. After months of anticipation, Velocity 2X is making its way to the Xbox One Store and Steam, and it’s bringing quite a few extras along for the ride. These new releases include every piece of bonus content from the “Critical Urgency” and “Dual Core” DLC packs and ranked challenge levels that are updated on a daily basis. If that doesn’t get you excited, this trailer probably will:

If you’re not familiar with the game, here's everything you need to know: Velocity 2X straddles two distinctive genres; it’s a top-down, vertical shooter and a side-scrolling platformer. It may seem like a difficult feat, but the folks at FuturLab have managed to find a seamless blend of the two.

Regardless of the mode you’re playing, though, V2X is all about speed. In fact, you may want to stock up on energy drinks, because you’ll need the kind of lightning-fast reflexes that only caffeine can provide. You’ll weave your way through enemy bases, blast barriers, and teleport to safety, and the most intense action is over in a fraction of a second. Every blink is a safety hazard.

Make no mistake, though, Velocity 2X is more than just a pick-up-and-play arcade game. The game’s backstory has been fleshed out by FuturLab, and the art direction was inspired by classic 1980’s sci-fi. The resulting title not only fuses two seemingly distinct gameplay genres, it integrates subtle storytelling and a spectacular artistic style. No wonder it won GameSpot’s Vita Game of the Year in 2014.

If you’d like to download your very own copy, it’s available on the Xbox Games Store and Steam for $19.99. And don’t forget to follow Sierra Games on Facebook and Twitter.
