Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Now Available

Get ready to grind with the new launch trailer.

Today’s the day. Gamers can finally get their hands on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, the latest entry in a franchise that’s been blending killer combos with killer soundtracks since 1999. But before you strap on those virtual wrist guards, check out the latest trailer. For the first time in franchise history, the Tony Hawk series is jumping off the couch and heading for the cloud. The powerful online capabilities of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are the foundation for THPS5’s drop-in/drop-out multiplayer mode, allowing the developers at Robomodo and Disruptive Games to bring a life-like skate park experience to the digital world. The 20-person multiplayer component lets gamers crash their friends’ online sessions for a little head-to-head competition or a few cooperative missions. But if you’d rather spend a little quality time perfecting your tricks in private, THPS5 has you covered there, as well.

Pro Skater 5 also includes a brand new collection of parks that draws inspiration from the franchise’s most beloved maps, but they’ve been reimagined for the modern gamer. Players will ollie, grind, kickflip, and noseslide their way through eight levels, but this barely scratches the surface of THPS5’s skate park collection.  Additional levels and characters will be added to your library (free of charge) in future updates. And players will have the ability to build their own twisted skate parks, using the same ramps, rails, and curbs that Robomodo created for its own levels. With an arsenal of more than 250 usable objects, the Hawk community will finally have the tools to flex its creative muscles.

Once the parks are finished, gamers can upload their creations to the cloud, sharing them with the entire THPS5 fanbase and giving skaters an endless supply of player-curated content.

“Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 emulates the social element of skateboarding,” said Tony Hawk. “Skating with your friends online is a blast, and doing it in a skatepark of your own design is even better. The possibilities are limited only by the community’s creativity.”

Even though THPS5 specializes in over-the-top, arcade gameplay, the title features some of the sport’s top real-life athletes. Nyjah Huston, Riley Hawk, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Lizzie Armanto, Leticia Bufoni, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Andrew Reynolds, Ishod Wair, and (of course) Tony Hawk represent a cross section of the skateboarding community. Robomodo spent a lot of time trying to capture each skater’s distinctive techniques, giving the athletes a unique in-game style that mirrors their real-world swagger.

Long time fans will also be happy to hear that the game’s sound track lives up to the franchise’s notoriously high standards. Tony Hawk himself hand picked many of the artists and songs with an ear for diversity and originality. It includes hits from Ratatat, Death from Above 1979, and dozens more.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is now available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but if you’re still rocking an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, don’t worry. THPS5 is expected to hit your console in November. For the latest news and updates, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
