Two icons from gaming lore are teaming up with the launch of the latest Crash™ Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Grand Prix! Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon are waiting to take each other on, down at the racetrack. The Spyro & Friends Grand Prix is free to anyone who has purchased Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and comes with a new characters, karts, and items as well as a brand-new track**; the aptly named Spyro Circuit! Everyone’s favorite purple dragon also takes up residence across the game, from the opening menu screen to the Grand Prix cinematic, as well as elements of the game itself.
As Thomas Wilson, Co-Studio Head at Beenox states, “we are huge Spyro fans and have not been able to keep our hands off of the Spyro™ Reignited Trilogy since its release last year. We are obviously also huge Crash fans, so being able to create a world where these two franchises can co-exist in all of their whacky glory has been an incredibly fun undertaking!”
The Spyro & Friends Grand Prix starts this Friday, August 30th at 7:00 AM PDT (2:00 PM UTC)*. Keep on racing, gain your Points, and use them to unlock a variety of new items in the Nitro Gauge**; there are 18 on offer and you can see exactly what to drive for when you check out the Roadmap (above). Standing out from the crowd is the famous dragon himself, but there’s also amazing items like the Gnasty Ride kart, the Sheep sticker, and even the Evil Coco and Evil Crunch skins!
As always, the name of the game is to keep beating those challenges and winning those races, since the Championship and Nitro Leaderboards will be refreshed for this epic Grand Prix season. As a reminder, the Championship Leaderboard tracks players’ performance in the Grand Prix season via a points-based system. The Nitro Leaderboard tracks total Nitro Points earned during the Grand Prix season. Those that finish in the top 5% of either leaderboard will get the Champion Kart (if they don’t have it already), and a brand new Spyro Signature Decal!
Of course, don’t forget to visit the Pit Stop, as there are a variety of exciting items to unlock with those Wumpa Coins, from new Characters like Gnasty Gnorc and Hunter, to Skins like the Viking Polar and Devil Dog Zam, to new Kart Sets and Wheels (the Spyromobile is here!), as well as Paint Jobs and Stickers!**
The best part of the third Grand Prix season is the track you’ll be racing on, which is available both locally and online once the update for this Grand Prix season is downloaded starting today: The Spyro Circuit takes everything you love about the purple dragon and celebrates it in style! Beenox has gone the extra mile to really add some Spyro flair to the proceedings: The Wumpa Fruit have been replaced by gems, power-up crates are now chests, and Sparx appears instead of invincibility masks! Even the soundtrack will be familiar to Spyro fans!
Journey around this detailed track, and check out a variety of Spyro themed statues, scenery, and easter eggs: Enter the main castle, zoom through the main hall and library inspired by the Dark Hollow level, and after some twists and turns, you enter a portal! You appear on a continuation of the track; this one inspired by the High Caves level in the Magic Crafters Homeworld of Spyro the Dragon™. But there’s little time for sight-seeing; dodge the strange wizards and their projectiles, and drive into a second portal: then bounce across floating platforms held aloft by crazed magicians in a huge, vortex-filled chamber! After that, it’s time to speed through a third portal, back to the Artisans Homeworld, and weave through a final series of twists before crossing the finish line! Be sure to make each boost and power-up count!
Join Spyro & Friends today … We’ll see you on the track!
