Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot Birthday Bash

Spyro and Crash both have anniversaries to celebrate and we’re kicking it off with a major birthday bash! Join the Spyro Community Day and commemorate Crash’s anniversary with a look back at the game’s impact on the platforming genre and gaming culture, plus physical merch and tie-ins inspired by the celebrated mascot.

Today we’re celebrating two major icons from the 90s as Spryo the Dragon™ turns 28 and Crash Bandicoot™ turns 30! Check out the Spyro Community Day blog for more info about the young purple dragon.

From platforming to cart racing and brawling, Crash Bandicoot has done it all, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of the marsupial’s antics! Ever since Crash and his friends—and foes—have entered the scene, gamers around the world have fallen head over heels for the Wumpa Fruit chomping, action-platforming hero who has traveled across interdimensional space, braved countless environmental hazards, and faced the tyrannical Dr. Neo Cortex, his creator and ultimate foe.

In celebration of Crash’s 30th anniversary, the icon is appearing in several major collaborations, including appearances in other games and physical merch you don’t want to miss!

30 Years of Crash

N. Sanity Island’s wildest native first launched into gaming in 1996, introducing the marsupial and his nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex to audiences in North America, Europe, and Japan. As opposed to the 2D sidescrollers that dominated the platforming market at the time, the development team opted for a 3D experience that redefined the platformer genre.

The action-packed combination of jumping, spinning, wall running, rail grinding, crate bashing, and gem collecting continued to develop throughout subsequent installments in the series, each game bringing new evolutions to the storyline and gameplay.

Highlights include the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. With a cast of iconic characters like Crash, Coco, Dingodile, Neo Cortex, N. Tropy, and others, the series made a name for itself with its off-the-wall creativity pushing the boundaries of gaming with over-the-top adventure and fun.

Suiting Up

The Crash Bandicoot mascot became an instant cultural icon as the Crash suit appeared in commercials, industry and fan conventions, cross-promotional campaigns, and other iconic events. The marsupial’s rebellious attitude and dance moves captured audiences in and out of the game.
