"Mess with the best, die like the rest."

The youngest of five in a military family, Erin "Battery" Baker was in the top of her class in Airborne School before becoming an absolute force in the US Ranger Corps.

Armed to the teeth with explosives, Battery can blast away the competition with her Special Issue Equipment and Weaponry. Here are some tips for using both of them, as well as what to do when you’re up against Battery’s explosive power.

The Cluster Grenade

Acting as a two-fold explosive device, the Cluster Grenade sticks to any surface and explodes into several miniature grenades. This grenade can be indefinitely cooked, so you don’t have to worry about it exploding in your hand.

Should this grenade stick to an enemy, it will have near-automatic kill potential. Learning the throwing arc of this grenade and getting a grip on timing will help in getting sticky kills, but with the fast-paced nature of this game, you may be better off throwing it into a group of enemies without trying to calculate the optimal release point.

Even if the Cluster Grenade doesn’t stick, the initial explosive does a good amount of damage. Where this piece of equipment shines though is in its sub-munitions. These mini-grenades bounce out wildly from the initial explosion, increasing the area of effect.

In any situation when using the Cluster Grenade, it’s best to aim towards the enemy. Because of its secondary explosives, it may be better to underthrow rather than overthrow towards an enemy, as they can bounce forward and around to further threaten the opposition.

Alternatively, throwing this grenade on a ceiling in order to have its sub-munitions rain down isn’t a bad idea either. Many soldiers don’t go around this game looking up at the sky (unless there is a scorestreak up there!), so a team may not expect a rain of fire from a well-placed Cluster Grenade above.

The War Machine

The War Machine. Introduced in Call of Duty®: Black Ops III, this semi-automatic, belt-fed launcher holds six grenades that explode upon impact with an enemy, or after it bounces off a wall or other objects.

The delayed explosive properties of this weapon make it a prime target for unique strategies. Although firing head-on at a group on enemies is never a bad idea, it may not be a bad idea to try and bank a grenade off a wall or floor while in cover.

The War Machine can clear a sniper perch or enclosed high space where the opposition has set up shop. Banking one up and in when there are enemies afoot could lead to some fiery justice.

Bear in mind that this weapon drains out in only six shots and will be deactivated after a certain amount of time. So, choose how you want to use those shots quickly to have maximum impact. 

Draining the Battery in Battle

Battery is a popular choice among those who love to be on demolition duty, especially in objective game modes where one well-placed explosive could turn the tide of battle.

Should you find the opposing team have a Battery amongst its ranks, remember two words first and foremost: Flak Jacket.

Don’t let Battery give you flak for using this perk against her; the reduction in explosive damage is a worthy counter to both her Specialist Equipment and Weaponry. It doesn’t negate the damage outright but being able to take some hits could mean the difference between capturing an objective and death.

While Flak Jacket is superb against Battery, it isn’t the only quality perk in slot 1. All perks have their benefits and while you should consider Flak Jacket, equip the perk that fits your playstyle.

Another create-a-class item worth considering is the Trophy System. The Trophy System shoots down projectiles, which includes the Cluster Grenade and the War Machine arsenal.

When using a Trophy System, placement is definitely key. A Trophy System has a limited range of effectiveness and can be shot down with a few bullets. Therefore, place them out of plain sight, but still near an area where you anticipate an incoming grenade.

Be forewarned, a Trophy System costs at least one Pick-10 point (two if you take two) and replaces the Special Issue Equipment that would be given while using that class.

No matter how you use Battery, she is a unique pick among the Specialists and is a tough soldier to pass up on … Yet that could be said for the other Specialists found in Multiplayer.
