Prop Hunt is back in The Resistance Community Event in Call of Duty: WWII as a featured playlist until the event wraps up on February 27.
In a single sentence, Prop Hunt is like your average game of hide-and-seek, except those who are hiding become inanimate objects hidden throughout the map, and the seekers have submachine guns.
In Prop Hunt, up to 12 players are split up into two teams, and teams alternate between being the Props or the Hunters every round. At least one Prop must survive a round for a win, while the Hunters must seek and destroy all of the Props within the round’s time limit to snag a victory.
For those who are jumping into Prop Hunt for the first time, or need a crash course in being an effective Prop or Hunter, here’s a quick guide that covers Prop Hunt’s basics.
Note: All button inputs are for the PlayStation 4 version of Call of Duty: WWII. Use your platform’s equivalent buttons for each input, or consult your on-screen HUD for inputs while playing.
Props
The first rule of being a Prop is to not stick out like a sore thumb.
You have 30 seconds in the beginning of the round to scope out your preferred hiding spot before the Hunters are released. Once the Hunters are active, Props will make a whistling noise every 25 seconds which can give away your location, so choose wisely. Although it is next to impossible to kill a Hunter, you do have a good amount of survival tools at your disposal.
First, you can rotate yourself by pressing L2, and lock yourself into place with R2. Use these two buttons to prevent yourself from looking out of place or accidently moving while you are hiding. You can also match your slope to your surrounding area with the Square button, which you should do if you want to blend into your surroundings as much as possible.
Pressing Down on the d-pad will set up a Decoy, which is an object that looks like the Prop you currently inhabit. When placed correctly, a Decoy can give you enough time to escape from the Hunters, or even trick them into thinking you are nearby.
Another tool in your arsenal are three Flash Grenades, which are activated by pressing L1. These grenades temporarily stun Hunters, and act like a standard Flash Grenade in Call of Duty: WWII. Use these when you know a Hunter is about to find your hiding spot and be sure to get out of there as fast as you can to find a new hiding spot as soon as you pop that flash.
Finally, you can shapeshift into a new Prop by pressing the Triangle button. Use this either at the beginning of the round if you think your Prop is too obvious, or after you escape a Hunter so he or she has more difficulty in finding you again. Note that Props come in three sizes, and larger Props give you higher score bonuses for remaining alive after a teammate dies during a round. Plus, you only three changes available, so choose wisely.
Hunters
As a Hunter, you have a Type 100 submachine gun and a limited amount of time to find every Prop on the map.
Shooting every single object on the map may seem like a great idea at first, but doing so will waste your precious ammunition, cause the Props to know your location, and allow them to set up their escape before you even know where they are.
Instead, rely on your knowledge of Call of Duty: WWII’s maps, and use your memory to figure out what seems out of place on the map. Be diligent with your shots, but don’t hesitate to shoot at something you think looks unusually placed.
Once you hit a Prop, you’ll get a hitmarker, so keep shooting that object until it disappears. This also happens whenever you hit a Decoy, but you should keep firing at it anyway, as it’s better to destroy a Decoy than find out that you were shooting at a Prop after you leave the area.
Props have higher health, so be prepared to fire for longer than you would normally expect. Ultimately, if you aim down your sights and place your shots accurately on a Prop, you’ll be on your way to becoming a master Hunter.
Finally, if you are having trouble finding a Prop, open your ears and pay close attention to the whistling noises every 25 seconds. A whistle’s volume and angle from where you stand can give you hints about where a Prop could be hiding, so turn up your sound or slap on a pair of headphones and listen closely.
Also, be advised that the giant atomic bomb in the middle of Gustav Cannon has always been a part of the map… or has it?
That’s all we have for Prop Hunt tips, so get out there and have some fun!
