We are nearly through with week two of the Age of Triumph. Last week we had the updated Crota’s End Raid, and I’m super jealous of those Guardians that got to complete the challenge modes. It was very cool following along on the forums as people figured out what the different challenges were, developed strategies, and then completed the Raid. Also, some of the speed runs for Ir Yut were really impressive!
This week the featured Weekly Raid is Vault of Glass. There is a challenge mode for both the Templar and Atheon, and as promised, the Atheon one looks to be pretty dang hard. As for me, I’m still working on the Age of Triumph Quest from the Speaker. The next order of business was to complete three Patrols in each of the locations, and I experienced lots of memories going back to my old haunts. I was particularly struck with a sense of nostalgia when I went back to the Dreadnaught. Man, that was quite an experience when my clanmates and I first landed on it and started to explore. So many little caves and hidden secrets. It was fun just to wander around and see what we could find.
While I was completing the patrols and punching as many adds as possible for the Get Personal Milestone, I was able to make some progress on another part of the Record Book. On page 11, the Wanderer, there is a Milestone for achieving Gold Tier in Public Events. Over the course of running around Mars, Venus, and the Cosmodrome I was was able to complete four of these. Not only that, but I was reminded that the first Public Event you complete each day will reward you with 15 Legendary Marks. Another great way to line your pockets and pick up some sweet Vendor gear.
The next step of Quest is Shining Your Light. For this you will need to “Kill champions summoned by Antiquated Runes in the Court of Oryx or Perfected Champions in Archon’s Forge.” Well, I had a pile of charged up Runes, so I decided to head back to the Dreadnaught and try my hand at that. This week’s Tier 3 boss is Thalnok, Fanatic of Crota, and the mechanic for this fight is very similar to the final battle in the Crota’s End Raid. First, you’ll need to kill a Swordbearer, and then you’ll need to DPS Thalnok. Once he kneels, hit him with the sword to damage him.
It is also possible to solo this encounter: If you have a high enough Light Level, one Gjallarhorn shot will kill the Knight, and another will make him kneel. It’s just a matter of dropping/picking up the sword and firing off the rockets. You don’t want to be too far away when he kneels, otherwise you won’t have enough time to hit him with the sword. But you also don’t want to be too close, because he sometimes lunges forward with his own sword.
There are also adds of course, but they aren’t too much trouble. A couple of sniper shots on each of the Wizards will clear them out before you tackle the boss. After doing this a few times with some Guardians who happened to be around and joined in, I headed back to the Tower for the next part of the Quest — Striking Back. For this I needed to complete three strikes in the SIVA Crisis Heroic playlist.
While I was doing both the Patrols and the Court of Oryx, I was also working toward another quest, this one I picked up doing the Nightfall last week. It is The Crux of Darkness Quest… i.e. the quest that will eventually lead to getting the Necrochasm. This is one of the only Exotics I have outstanding (not counting all the new Raid Adept Exotics) and I’ve seriously been lusting after it. It seems that the path to get it is a little more straightforward and less RNG dependent.
The first step is to “Upgrade the Husk of the Pit and transform it into Eidolon Ally.” Okay, but how do you do that? Well, if you inspect the weapon you’ll see a node on it that is called “Cannibalism.” This reads “The Husk exudes a sense of sinister satisfaction when used to destroy Knights.” So, you need to shoot some Hive Knights. And by some, I mean, a ton. I’m definitely going to be working on this one for a while, because I really want that updated exotic.
Okay, that’s it for now, I’m off to slay some Knights! What about you, any favorite parts of Age of Triumph? What parts of the Record Book are you working away on?
