How to Trigger Heroic Public Events in Destiny 2

Follow these steps battle more powerful enemies and claim greater rewards.

Heroic Public Events in Destiny 2 give Guardians a chance to show off their skills. These advanced versions of regular Public Events require precision and timing to activate, and here’s how you can help trigger them.

Public Events are fast-paced, and new players might not notice the steps that trigger the Heroic modes. To assist you, check out our guide to how Guardians can trigger the Heroic mode of each Public Event in Destiny 2.

Cabal_Excavation_heroic_version_Thresher.jpg

Cabal Excavation (Earth, Nessus, Io)

In a Cabal Excavation a Cabal warship drops a mining lander onto the ground. To defeat the normal version of this Public Event, Guardians must stay within the circle around the lander while under fire in order to take control.

To trigger the Heroic version, you have to destroy a Cabal Thresher that flies into the area. The Thresher will appear when the “Overriding Lander” indicator is around 30. But watch out, because the Thresher will swoop down to the combat area, open fire, and then fly away to make another pass.

Destroy the Thresher before it finishes making its attack runs and leaves the area, and this will summon an Excavator Valus boss. Kill the Valus before the timer runs out to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Cabal Excavation Public Event.

Injector_Rig_heroic_version_vent.jpg

Injection Rig (Earth, Nessus)

In the Injection Rig event, a Cabal warship drops an intelligence-gathering lander called an Injction Rig onto the ground. Once the Rig has settled down, an Infiltrator Psion will appear. To win the normal version of the Injection Rig event, you must kill all three Infiltrator Psions.

Every time you kill one of the Infiltrator Psions, an orange force field drops over the Injection Rig and the Rig’s thrusters will fire. The area inside the force field gets so hot that it will kill any Guardian who doesn’t evacuate.

To trigger the Heroic version of the Injection Rig Public Event, you need to stay within the force field and destroy vents that open near the top, in the middle, and on the bottom of the Rig. You will get one, short opportunity to destroy the vents at the top when the Rig first lands. Otherwise the vents will open only while the Rig’s thrusters are firing, so you have to be quick before the flames melt you.
When a vent is destroyed it will emit thick, grey smoke. When all the vents are destroyed an Infiltrator Valus boss will appear, and you will have to kill the Valus before the timer runs out to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Injection Rig Public Event.

Glimmer_Extraction_heroic_version_box.jpg

Glimmer Extraction (Earth, Nessus)

In a Glimmer Extraction, Fallen pirates transmat mining gear into the area and attempt to extract glimmer from the ground. When all of the Fallen defending a mining site are defeated, the mining equipment transmats away and the Fallen move the mining site to another location. To win the normal version of the Glimmer Extraction you have to defeat the Fallen at all three sites.

If you want to trigger the Heroic version of the event, don’t kill the Fallen at a mining site right away. Wait for another, smaller piece of mining equipment to appear. Destroy that piece of equipment at each of the three mining sites before you kill the Fallen guarding each site.
If you do this correctly the stolen glimmer will fall to the ground at the third mining site. Then, to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Glimmer Extraction Public Event, control the pile of glimmer long enough for your Ghost to scan the glimmer and steal it right back from the Fallen.

Weapons Exchange (Earth, Titan)

In a Weapons Exchange the Fallen transmat in three weapons caches, each containing a pair of Shock Cannons and protected by a force field with a generator on either side of the field. A Fallen Skiff will also drop an Arsenal Walker, one of the Fallen’s deadly, six-legged, armored tanks, and squads of Fallen warriors.

Every time an armor plate on one of the Arsenal Walker’s legs is destroyed the Walker temporarily collapses to the ground and its glowing, orange brain is exposed. Shots fired into the Walker’s brain do large amounts of damage. The normal version of the Weapons Exchange Public Event ends after the Arsenal Walker is destroyed. If you pay attention you will notice that each time the Walker collapses it also spills Arc Charges onto the ground.

You can pick up the Arc Charges and deposit them into the generators on either side of the force fields protecting the Shock Cannons. Depositing an Arc Charge into each pair of generators will disable the force field and expose the pair of Shock Cannons.

To trigger the Heroic version of the Weapons Exchange collapse all three force fields. The Fallen will then drop a second Arsenal Walker into the fight. Destroy both Arsenal Walkers before the timer runs out to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Weapons Exchange Public Event.

Ether_Resupply_heroic_version_transport_servitor.jpg

Ether Resupply (Earth, Nessus)

In an Ether Resupply event, a giant Prime Ether Servitor appears, surrounded by a ring of Fallen equipment. To defeat the normal mode of the event, Guardians need to destroy the Servitor before the timer runs out.

If you want to amp up the challenge, keep an eye out for smaller Servitors, called Transport Servitors, that the Prime Ether Servitor will transmat into the fight. The Transport Servitors will only appear for a limited amount of time before they disappear. To trigger the Heroic version of the Ether Resupply, destroy the Transport Servitors before they have a chance to escape. Then, to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Ether Resupply Public Event, destroy the Prime Ether Servitor before the timer runs out.

Witches_Ritual_heroic_version_Hex_Circle.jpg

Witches’ Ritual (Titan)

The Witches’ Ritual event takes place on Titan in a room with a giant Hive portal in the front and two plates called Hex Circles in the back. The event begins when a pair of Ritual Witches appear, each surrounded by an impenetrable shield. To drop their shields, Guardians need to control the Hex Circles. You can tell if the Hex Circle is under your control because runes on the Circle will glow bright green.

When both Ritual Witches have been destroyed, the portal opens and an Abyssal Sorcerer comes through. To beat the normal version of the Witches’ Ritual event kill the Abyssal Sorcerer before the timer runs out.

To trigger the Heroic version of the Witches’ Ritual, after you destroy the Ritual Witches retain control of the plates and look up at the tops of the columns on either side of the Hive gate. A purple crystal will appear at the top of each column, surrounded by an impenetrable shield similar to the shields that protected the Ritual Witches. The shields will drop if you continue to control the Hex Gates.

Destroy both crystals and the Heroic version of the event begins. An Abyssal Champion will exit the portal instead of an Abyssal Sorcerer. Kill the Champion before the timer runs out to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Witches’ Ritual Public Event.

Taken_Blight_heroic_version_buff.jpg

Taken Blight (Earth, Io)

In a Taken Blight event, a huge, spherical Blight appears in the air, followed by rifts on the ground that spawn Taken to defend the Blight. The key to destroying the Blight in the normal version of this event is to destroy the Taken that spawn from the rifts.

To trigger the Heroic version of the event, you have to damage the Blight directly by picking up a damage bonus called “Blight Receding.” You gain the bonus by stepping into the bubble of Darkness energy that surrounds each of the rifts that spawn around the Blight. When you step back out of the bubble you will see the “Blight Receding” indicator and a 4-second countdown.

Once you have done enough direct damage to the Blight this way, it will open and a Taken champion called a Blightmaker will appear. Kill the Blightmaker before the timer runs out to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Taken Blight Public Event.

Disrupt_Vex_Construction_heroic_version_Spire.jpg

Disrupt Vex Construction (Nessus, Io)

In a Disrupt Vex Construction event, the Vex will attempt to build a structure called a Spire. The Vex complete its construction by integrating themselves into the Spire, and you can tell a Vex is integrating when it stands next to the Spire and begins to slowly disintegrate. To win the normal version of the event you have to prevent ten Vex from integrating themselves before the timer runs out.

To trigger the Heroic version of the event, pay attention to the three white beams of light that emit from the Spire shortly after it appears. A Vex plate will appear at the end of each beam of light.
There will be three plates in total. To trigger the Heroic version of the event, the Guardians must capture all three plates. To control a plate, simply stand inside its ring.

Once the Guardians have captured all three plates, the Heroic version of the event begins and waves of even deadlier Vex will assault the Spire. Continue to prevent the Vex from completing ten integrations before the timer runs out to successfully complete the Heroic version of the Disrupt Vex Construction Public Event.

Vex Crossroads (Mercury)

Vex_Crossroads_normal_version_gatekeeper_plate.jpg

In the Vex Crossroads event, Guardians attempt to summon and destroy a Gate Lord. First, a Vex Gatekeeper on either side of the map has to be destroyed. The Gatekeepers drop Arc Charges that Guardians have to pick up and slam into glowing plates on either side of the area where the Gatekeepers spawn.

When Arc Charges have been slammed into both plates, a Vex energy catapult will activate. These catapults launch Guardians to tower-like islands on either side of the map, and another Gatekeeper will spawn on each island. These Gatekeepers also drop Arc Charges when destroyed.

An Arc Charge needs to be slammed into a glowing plate at the center of each island. This will activate another Vex energy catapult that will throw Guardians into the middle of the map where the Gate Lord appears. To win the normal mode of the event, Guardians have to destroy the Gate Lord before the timer runs out.

Vex_Crossroads_heroic_version_island.jpg

To trigger the Heroic version of the event, when you slam the Arc Charge onto the glowing plate on the island don’t take the catapult back to the center of the map. Instead, run around to the back of the island and look for the appearance of a diamond-shaped Vex machine. As soon as you see the machine, destroy it. You have to be quick as the machines vanish soon after they appear.

Vex_Crossroads_heroic_version_diamond.jpg

Platforms will materialize in the air behind the island as you destroy the machines. If you destroy the machines quickly, there will be enough platforms to ascend to the top of the island where you will find a Vex plate. Control the plate to activate the Heroic version of the event. Then catapult to the center of the island to destroy the Gate Lord.

Vex_Crossroads_heroic_version_plate.jpg

In the Heroic version, the Gate Lord is occasionally protected by an impenetrable shield. To drop the shield you have to destroy Vex Keepers that spawn near the Gate Lord, pick up the Arc Charges dropped by the Keepers, and slam an Arc Charge into a glowing plate suspended in the air above where the Gate Lord spawns.

What all Heroic Public Events have in common regardless of location or enemies is a much greater level of challenge. You will have to face more powerful enemies and coordinate with your fellow Guardians to trigger and complete Heroic Public Events, compared to finishing the normal versions. You will earn more XP and glimmer for completing Heroic Public Events accordingly, and you can also show new players that there are awesome secrets to discover in Destiny 2.
