Last month, Destiny made its worldwide debut and was quickly named the most successful new video game franchise in history. Since then, millions of players continue to log on and fight the darkness every day, accounting for countless hours spent in the Crucible, on Strike missions, and even surpassing records set by previous Bungie titles. In the latest NPD data, Destiny was named the top selling game in the month of September, and it ranks within the top 10 largest game launches in history. But our fans on PlayStation in particular have ensured that Destiny was the most popular game on the PS4 in September.
Announced by SCEA today, Destiny is currently the most-played PS4 game in North America with total gameplay hours approximately five times higher than the second most-played game. Over 450,000 hours of live gameplay have been broadcast from the PS4 via its integrated Share function and the limited-edition Destiny PS4 bundle helped make September the biggest month for hardware sales of the system.
The news comes on the heels of Destiny's one-month anniversary and the reveal of the latest gameplay stats, including a daily player community of over 3.2 million and average sessions lasting more than 3 hours. In December, Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, will launch across all platforms and feature timed exclusive content for PlayStation platforms.
