Guardians come from every corner of the globe and all walks of life, including from the world of professional wrestling. While we were stoked to see the towering Big Show interview Bungie’s Pete Parsons about Destiny 2 at E3, we were even more excited when he stopped by the Activision booth to play the game with his crew.
Big Show is a massive (literally and figuratively) Destiny fan, and when he’s not in the ring choke-slamming foes you can find him running Weeklies, Dailies, Raids, or casually playing Destiny on the WWE’s Up Up Down Down gaming show. We grabbed a few moments with him before he took the controller and played Destiny 2, and here’s what he had to say.
Thanks for taking the time, it’s great to see you here.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the opportunity to get up close and personal with fellow Guardians.
As we’ve seen in the latest Destiny 2 trailer Our Darkest Hour, Ghaul is a pretty big guy. If you got into the ring with him, who would win?
Well, if you consider my WWE record (sigh) and this being a big match, more than likely I'd end up putting Ghaul over and making him look good, really good. With that said, once we meet in Destiny 2 me and my clan are going to end up taking his butt to task.
I heard that you plan on maining a Titan when Destiny 2 comes out, and you run a Hunter right now?
Yeah, I prefer to main a Hunter because, well out of all the characters, and this is all opinion-based, but the Hunter has a lot less advantages than the other two classes. Warlocks with their animation supers (Nova Bombs), crazy op roaming Stormcaller, cross map melee slap and oh yeah… they get a second chance life, it’s like a 4th grade “do-over mode”. Titans are just, I think, over blessed with insane gear, double everything, Pulse Grenades that last forever they too have an animation super (le fist of panic) and then they do the ol’ hammer gimmick. It's like having 6 golden guns shots by the time they chunk ‘em all.
Running a Hunter well takes a high level of commitment. You’ve got to be dedicated to the craft and know precisely what you're doing. Let’s start with it being the only class without animation super. What’s left of its melee, a giant knife to your face, has been nerfed to an “almost but not quite” kill and blink strike is very temperamental. This may sound like me complaining but I actually see it as a badge of honor because when I make it to the lighthouse every week I know I took the hard road.
In Destiny 2 I'm excited to see how the new gameplay pans out and I plan to give all the classes a real good look this time. I've had an amazing journey with the Hunter in the first run through Destiny so I figured I would dedicate some time to a new class.
I know awhile back you were hoping to get an Icebreaker in your travels. Did you ever get one?
Ohhh Icebreaker, the only exotic weapon that eluded me for many moons. Until the Weekly Elite Bounty blessed me with one on my second try, take that RNG!
When it rains, it pours.
When it rains, it pours. Now it seems I can’t shake the Icebreaker. Aksis chest, Icebreaker, Lord Shaxx’s weekly bounty, Icebreaker, random purple secondary engram, you guessed it, Icebreaker. I was trying to talk Pete into some sort of monthly Guardian to Guardian trade system. Imagine being awarded 9 Icebreaker but never having landed a Vision of Confluence. Wouldn’t you like the ability to barter with another Guardian and swap weapons, I know I’d love that feature. Pete gave me a hard NO, he said "Yeah, but you'd probably destroy the economy of the game." I'm like, "Yeah but then I’d have all the weapons”
Spread the love around.
Yeah, I'd definitely spread the love. But, I understand we have to uphold the integrity of the game. You earn it, you rock it. Guess the trade system won’t be happening any time soon.
Do you play when you’re out on the road doing shows in the ring?
I prefer to play at home. When I'm on the road, I’m in full work mode. I'll talk about activities or different strats with some of the guys in the locker room but I'm devoted to doing my job to the very best of my abilities and giving my fans my utmost attention.
As soon as I get home and after spending time with my family I sit down in front of my giant screen, throw on my cans, drop the a/c to 65, close my blackout shades and sign in! At the ready is a gallon of water and a drawer full of controllers in the event I crush one after a bad beat. I literally immerse myself into Destiny. I got pages to complete in my Book. I got raids to run, Dailies and Weeklies to finish and hopefully I catch a day or two of Trials but understand, I miss a great deal of content while on the road but I will always get my Raids in.
Awesome, thank you very much!
The pleasure was all mine, thank you for allowing me to share.
I’d like to point out that he ended the interview with a crushing handshake. The man is a beast! We’d like to take the time to thank both Big Show and WWE for making this interview happen, and we can’t wait to see what he thinks about Destiny 2.
